This pile of blocks doesn't look like much, but you are in for a surprise. Susan has been cutting up shirts for a Bonnie Hunter quilt.
Susan has spent a great deal of time with this project. First cutting up all the shirts then sewing the pieces together and don't forget all the ironing that's involved. Here, she is cutting pieces after they were sewn together.
Now go to her blog to see why it was worth all the work.

I received this message from "Bug" and since she is a No Reply, I can't answer her by e-mail.
She said "Looking for the disappearing 9 patch and not seeing it.... :)"
I want to direct you to an excellent tutorial on how to make the Disappearing Nine Patch. As you can see the arrangement of blocks is very scrappy.
I followed all the instructions in the tutorial. I decided to make my quilt in a more orderly fashion for my granddaughter. It looks amazingly different.
I also added a little girl on the back for my special little girl.

My granddaughter is turning three next week. Each of my grandchildren get a larger quilt for their 3rd birthday. I should have had this finished a long time ago; but, as you know, things happen that interfere with our plans. It will be finished in time; and, I hope she will like this Disappearing Nine Patch. All in pink, of course, so it will go nicely with her big sister's pink quilt in their bedroom.

Sara just picked out these fabrics for a Disappearing Nine Patch. They are so colorful and cheerful. This is going to be a great little quilt for some fortunate little girl. We'll look forward to seeing this as Sara works on it.

Sara just put this quick scrap quilt together for her grandson. We all joined in to help her sandwich it. Now she just has to do the quilting. She's so happy that she was able to use all these left over fabrics. It's a great quilt for a boy.

Sara is the first one to finish blocks for our Underground Railroad Sampler Quilt. Both are lovely and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's blocks as they are finished.

Renee B has returned from her recent hospitalization. We are so happy to see her improving and now able to join us again. Here she is shopping at "my stash" because she is still not able to shop in Jerusalem. Renee will also be making the Underground Railroad Quilt.

This week our regular shiur (Bible Study) was cancelled so the ladies really had time to accomplish lots of things.
Bracha was able to join us today. She hasn't been able to come for many months so it was so good to have her join us again. Here she is cutting her fabric for a new quilt.
Bracha has made many things over the pasts few months. She said she'll try to get pictures of her projects for us to see. Here is a book cover that she is working on.
Shifra had the day off from her new job so she brought along her Log Cabin for us to sandwich. Now she is ready to begin quilting.
Avigail is starting to cut fabric for a new quilt. Here she is in my sewing room. She's using our raised table which helps to take the strain off the back when working for an extended time. She's a lefty. It is always difficult for me to assist a lefty in getting her fabrics in the right position for cutting. I'm just sooooooo right handed.

I recently stopped by Budrutz because I was in the area (not that I needed an excuse). I picked up some lovely flannels to add to my collection.
I also picked up some additional fabric that I liked. They are expecting a new shipment of fabric the middle of August, so be sure to check it out.

Sara ordered this fabric to make a tote bag but now she isn't so sure. It has a great finish in case it rains so in Israel it would be a winter bag. That's the only time it rains here. Sara has second thoughts and may make something else with it. We'll just have to stay tuned and wait.

I've been following Roxanne from the Twilight Stitcher's Quilt Guild for some time. Roxanne has her own blog called Portions & Possibilities.
Her guild recently started a new project to make a quilt sampler called "The Underground Railroad." They had been to a quilt show and were inspired by this quilt.
It is really lovely and it consists of many traditional quilt patterns. I asked Roxanne if the ladies in our quilt group could join in -- we would like to make this wonderful quilt. The answer, of course, was yes. We will be sent quilt patterns via the internet and follow along. Since there are so many miles between us, we will be sharing photos via this blog and the new blog the quilt guild is setting up. I will pass on their new blog information as soon as I get it. We will be making 12 squares from a choice of 16 patterns. All the quilts will be different since we will individually choose our fabrics and patterns. We are not historians but quilters. Even though the story of The Underground Railroad is very interesting and we encourage people to read about it, our main interest is quilting and the wonderful patterns that makeup this quilt. We are looking forward to the challenge of making new quilt patterns and most of all making new friends that are part of the Twilight Stitcher's Quilt Guild.

Sara, Susan and I met for lunch at an outdoor cafe. The meal was great but the company was even better. Susan brought along her Disappearing Nine Patch for us to look at. This quilt turned out lovely and Susan says the pattern is very easy. She has e-mailed us the instructions so we can try it. Isn't e-mail terrific? We just have to find the time between our already long list of things to make. Susan explained how she did the machine quilting.

Rina also bought this wonderful quilters fabric that was sold at Budrutz. She just didn't have time to make a bag at this time, so Shifra made it for her. It's extra large and even has a zippered pocket inside. So now there are at least 3 of us with the same fabric for our tote bags. When we go out together we will certainly be seen as being in the same quilting group. What fun to have this.

A big thank you to Sara. She knew that I wouldn't have the time right now to make a bag. So she took this fun fabric and made the bag for me. Several of us bought this fabric from Budrutz. It has everything on it that a quilter uses. What fun to look at. It also was the fabric in our recent giveaway. Mini, our winner just may make a bag too.

Our third comfort quilt is finished. Once again, it's a panel, so it didn't take long to make. Thank you Susan for donating this panel. It was just what I needed. Also, a big thank you to my sister Sandy in Philly for the fabric used for the back. She gave me this fabric a long time ago; and, I just now had the proper quilt for it. That's why it's great to have a stash. I hold onto everything.

We are all trying to improve our machine quilting. Here Susan is taking the time to teach Rina how to machine quilt. She was giving her many good tips. I was on the side looking on so I too can improve my quilting. Thanks so much Susan for giving of your time and expertise.

Shifra has started a new job. This unfortunately means that she will not be able to meet with us on Monday mornings. But this doesn't mean she is leaving our group and that she will stop quilting. On the first day at the job she realized that she needed something to hold her water bottle. In Israel we take water with us wherever we go. So this is the result.
Then she realized she needed something to hold supplies that her employer gave her. So this is the result.
I think she will have everyone quilting at the new job before long. We wish Shifra well and hope it's enjoyable.

Rina has almost finished this adorable panel quilt. She just has to do the last minute closing of the binding. Her friend did some fantastic embroidery on the bottom of this quilt. She even added a few 3D plastic letters for a final unique touch.

Bracha started this quilt for her hubby nearly a year ago. So many things have happened to delay the completion. A long visit in America and also a broken arm didn't help. Susan has jumped in to give a helping hand. Bracha finished the top and Susan is doing the rest. She has sandwiched it, and has done the machine quilting. The binding is almost complete. What a beautiful job by both ladies.
Here is Susan showing the wall hanging to the ladies.
