New Templates

A special thank you to Mrs Ernst for her donation of templates to our group.  They were in her sewing room and not being used so she thought we could put them to good use.  There are 4 interesting patterns here to choose from.

Shifra's Fish Are Finished

Well, Shifra has finished her fish and the secret is out.  They weren't made for a quilt.  They are pot holders that were given out on Purim to family and friends.  She hopes to make more and use them in a wall hanging to display every Purim.  What a delightful job she has done.
I hope Shifra saved a pot holder for herself!

The Button King

I have always liked buttons.  There is such a variety of them in the world and I find it fascinating.  But here is someone more obsessed with buttons than anyone -- the Button King.  Watch and enjoy.

Apple Core Progress Report

My Apple Core quilt top is finished and ready for sandwiching.  It was done completely by hand in my spare time which is why I have been working on it for about 20 years (it was actually about one to two years, but it seemed allot longer).

March Get-Together

This was our last get together until May.  Today is Purim and from now until Pesach (Passover) everyone will be busy with cleaning, shopping and cooking for these two joyous holidays.  There won't be much time for sewing, although I'm sure some of the ladies will get some quilting done on their own.

Shoshana Re is a new member.  She hasn't started to quilt yet but wants to do regular sewing for now.  She just made this new outfit and put it over her clothing to model it for us.  She would like everyone to know that she is thinner than this picture makes her look.

Renee S has been working on a vest and I believe she wants to finish it before Pesach.  She is working on this as fast as she can.  Notice Karen next to her!  Karen is busy taking notes while we are learning in Rochel's shiur.

Rina has started a new quilt.  She is trying to get as much done as possible before she leaves for the USA to visit her daughter for Pesach.  This is going to be a wonderful quilt.

Purim 5771 (2011)

Today is Purim.  It's a delightful, happy holiday.  Everyone likes to wear costumes that are happy and original.  No scary costumes for us.  The custom is to bring gifts of food to our family, friends, neighbors and give money to the poor.  Yes, we do get some gifts in return but that is not the objective.  I like to save fabric scraps which are used at the bottom of my baskets and long thin strips of fabric as decorative ribbons.  I don't like to waste any fabric and I'm always happy at Purim time that I saved my little scraps.

These are some of the baskets that I gave out this year and of course there was some fat quarters included.
Rochel was given a special plant to thank her for all her efforts in teaching us Torah each week.

One of the many gifts that I received was from Naomi.  She painted this wooden spatula and made a delicious salad with pita bread.
This Purim treat was delivered by her husband and children.  Naomi made the children's costumes.
When walking on the streets you see so many children dressed in their costumes and delivering their gifts.  There were too many for me to take but here are a couple.

Shoshana Ra made this for her grandchildren and she brought in a brides dress to see if anyone needed it as a Purim costume.

Esther L shared some photos of costumes she made in the past for her children.  This will give you an idea of the type of costumes that are popular on Purim.

A Tribute to the Fogel Family

We wanted to do something as tribute to the Fogel Family of Itamar, Israel.  We saw a tribute on Stephanie's blog, My Imperfect Life, that brought tears to our eyes and said more than we could have.  Please go to her blog to read "Good Things from Bad."  Once again, we find ourselves thanking Stephanie for something wonderful.  Her friendship and inspiration are truly a blessing to us at the Quilting Corner.  May G-d bless her in everything she does.

Something Special for You

With so much turmoil in the world today, in Japan and elsewhere and after the tragic murder of
the Fogel family here in Israel, this was a refreshing site to see.  It's the first time I have had a smile on my face in days and I think it will make you smile too.

8 Pointed Star

Shoshana L has finished her lovely 8 Pointed Star using a sewing machine.  This is the first time she is trying a pieced pattern by machine.  Shoshana plans to put a border on and make it into a pillow.  She did a great job for the first time and now has other projects in mind.
