Debbie In Quilters Newsletter Magazine

Recently our group was given a collection of quilt magazines.  To my delight when looking through them I found a picture of a quilt that Debbie made in the Sept/Oct 2008 issue of the Quilters Newsletter.  I saw it once when she brought it to our group for show and tell.  She does fantastic work so it really shouldn't have been a surprise to me to find it in a magazine.

What Has Sara Been Up To?

Sara continues to work on her Grandmother's Flower Garden.  Each flower that Sara is making is so wonderful, it's hard to pick a favorite.
The top is finished except for borders for this special gift.  It's for a male relative.  Can't say more in case he is watching.  Sara used a jelly roll with many autumn colors.  You can't go wrong with that.
Sara's latest is this Batik Winding Ways.  It was a kit with all the pieces cut out.  Although this helped, it still was not an easy pattern to do.  Now she has to put on her borders for this beautiful wall hanging.  Sara is going to keep this one for herself.  Wouldn't you?

Shifra's Sukkot Wall Hanging

Shifra worked fast and furiously to finish this wall hanging for the up coming Sukkot festival which starts tomorrow evening.  The detail of her hand embroidery is wonderful but hard to see in the pictures.  The 7 species that grow in Israel are shown here.

Weekly Get-together

This was another busy day.
While we are listening to Rochel give her shiur (lecture),everyone's hands are busy sewing.

Renee S along with Shifra are making wonderful wall hangings for Succot which is next week.
The designs came from a coloring book and were just what was needed.

Shoshana R found a robe that will be perfect for her next project so she was busy cutting it up to have it ready.

Rina has new Batiks and was getting them ready for her project.  Batiks seem to be everyone's favorite fabric.

Susan is quilting her project for the Remembering Adelia book by Kathleen Tracey.  It is just fabulous.  Our best wishes and prayers got out to Kathleen, that she has a speedy recovery and will be home from the hospital soon.

Hinda's latest Jean's quilt is coming along nicely.  She should have it finished soon.

Sara works on her English Paper Piecing Grandmothers Flower Garden every week and takes it with her wherever she goes.  It's a big project doing it by hand. The time spent on this  will be worth every minute when it's completed.

Renee B has started to work on her curtain again.  She has added yellow shashing which was the right choice for this.
Renee B also just completed another baby quilt.  Her new great-grandchildren are coming so fast she can't sew fast enough. She may start making small wall hangings instead to keep up the demand for baby gifts.

Rina's Baby Quilt

Rina has finished this darling flannel baby quilt.  It's as cute as can be.  Please take note of the special embroidered balloons on the bottom.  I wouldn't mind being a baby again if this would be my quilt.  Fortunate is the baby that gets this cuddly quilt.

Blimp

On a recent trip to Tsfat I was waiting at a bus stop in Jerusalem.  Across the street there was a man holding a blimp, of all things.  As I watched, I saw that everyone, and I do mean everyone, had to stop this man to find out what was going on.  Of course I will never know.  I was too far away to ask and I can only wonder how he even got there.  Certainly he didn't arrive by car or bus.

Birthday Quilt

On this weeks class trip, the ladies gave me a surprise gift.  This marvelous friendship quilt.  I was told they started planning this for me as far back as April.  Now I know my friends can keep a secret.  A special thanks to my hubby for making copies of the pattern and for keeping the secret too. Each quilter made a square and signed it with special messages.  I appreciate this sooooooo much.  Everyone took the time from their busy lives to make time for me.  It doesn't get better than that.  Thank you all so much.

Class Trip To Debbie's

This week's class trip was fantastic.  We met at the home of Debbie in the Har Nof section of Jerusalem.
It was hard to know where to look first.  Her home is a delight with all her creations from the past 16 years.  She is not only a quilter but a real fiber artist with loads of talent.  We are so fortunate to have her in our group. Here is some of what we enjoyed.

This darling quilt was made from leftovers from another quilt  We should never be in a hurry to through any fabric away.

On the left Debbie used the trimmings from a Purim gift and on the right, yes, it's a grenade, not a water pitcher.

The next two pictures are of post cards about 4"x6" that she made and received in a swap.

This was a 3 dimensional picture which, unfortunately, doesn't show up well in the picture.  The butterflies are really taking off.

At first, I thought this was needlepoint, but it was x-stitched.

Each cube in this quilt has a photo.  What a fabulous quilt.

This is Debbie's Dear Jane, not finished yet.  She's at the half way mark.

On to Debbie's work room for more inspiration.

Back in Debbie's living room, we were treated to an additional show and tell.  We were all delighted in what Debbie had to say.  After all, all quilts have a story.

Notice the center of this marvelous quilt.  Debbie uses the center square for the heading on her blog.  It's absolutely wonderful.

This quilt was made especially to be shown in the book displayed. What a terrific accomplishment!

A very big thank you to Debbie for bringing us into her home and showing us all her inspiring art work.  I hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did.

Of course later we stopped off at the local bagel shop for a quick lunch before heading back home.
