Shifra Chaya's Bat Mitzvah Quilt

My first grandchild, Shifra Chaya has just become a Bat Mitzvah.  Her quilt is finally done.  She asked for a pink quilt with hearts and to have her name on it.  So this is what I came up with.  A string quilt, and if you look carefully you will see the 2 concentric hearts in the center.  In order to make it more interesting, I made my first pillow case to match.  I followed the tutorial by Robin Gallagher on YouTube which made it very easy.  You can check it out on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7moryq_ZRFY

Susan's Blue and Yellow Quilt

Susan just completed this blue and yellow quilt and brought it to our quilting group for show and tell.  It's a fantastic quilt and everyone loves blue and yellow quilts.  I'd like to make one myself, so on the my list it goes.  Susan, thank you for bringing it to Betar.  You continue to inspire us.

Susan's applique - Rounding The Bend

Susan has been working on this applique and all the pieces for the top will be completed soon. It's a wonderful hand applique that can be taken with you and worked on a little at a time. I'm seeing the pattern on other blogs, so it must be popular at this time and I'm sure, enjoyable to do.

June Projects

June turned out to be a very busy month. We've worked hard on our sewing and I've been too busy to post.  Sorry about that.  I will try to keep up with the ladies more in July.

Naomi made another painting of flowers. The picture doesn't show how adorable it really is.
She also has started an applique for a children's stool, using denim fabric. Only the top is completed. I'll show this again when it's finished.  Her kids will love this.

Sara and Renee S, made a new tote bag together.  Sara, using her fabrics, cut it out and Renee did the sewing.  It's really fun to work together.

Renee B has finished her wall hanging and if off to London to visit her daughter.  She finished it just in time for this trip. It looks lovely and just the way she wanted.

Rina has been working on her Batik Log Cabin over the past few weeks. The top is completed now and she is going to wait before she quilts it.  It is for a family member and in case it's a surprise, I don't want to mention who it is for. You don't often see this pattern using this fabric but it turned out to be extraordinarily beautiful.

Shifra found a wonderful new quilt pattern on About.com  As soon as she saw it, she got right to it. It's almost finished.  Just needs a border. It's another purple quilt. She does like purple!
Shifra is also working on another quilt. This is the second time she is using this pattern. Now there is more purple and since she had an extra square she is using it for a label on the back. Nice touch Shifra.

Binah Magazine Article

We have made the big time.  Our Quilting Corner group was written up in Binah Magazine.  Binah is a weekly magazine for the observant Jewish community.  They look for organizations or people that participate in acts of a kindness and charity.  Quilting falls into that category. Quilters are very giving people.  We are always making quilts for others.  I can't reproduce the article here, but if you have been following our blog, you would have seen most of the quilts and stories behind them that appeared in the article.

Ginsberg's Wedding Quilt

On Monday we gave Rochel the quilt the group made for her son.  His wedding was June 14th. This was our second group quilt that we have made. We  enjoyed working on it together.  She was very surprised and delighted with this quilt.  When she gives us a shiur (lecture) each week, she sees how much goes into making quilts.

Renee S's Baby Quilt

Renee just finished another fast baby quilt.  Notice the flannel backing with the little trains.  How cute!
They are quick, easy and fast when you don't have too much time to get that gift ready.

Some Days Are Like This

Avigail's 1st Quilt

Mazal Tov Avigail!
She has finished her first quilt and is now working on another.  This is for her grandchild and you can't make for one and not the other. This is terrific for a new quilter and I think she enjoyed making too.

Quilters Newsletter

In the June/July 2010 issue of Quilters Newsletter, quilts from around the world are featured.
Although I haven't met her, Eti David, an Israeli quilter, was honored by being in this issue.  Mazel Tov Eti! You did a fabulous job.
