A Day at the Zoo

A big thank you to quilter Renee Smith for taking us on a tour of the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo. She has been a volunteer at the zoo for many years and had many interesting stories to tell us about the animals. Not all of the ladies in our group were able to attend but those that did had a wonderful day. It's still warm in Israel so the weather was delightful. Now we have to get back to our quilting.
It was a very good outing for us. Gom Zoo l'tovah (pun intended).

Shower Curtains

Did you ever wonder what kind of shower curtain a quilter might have? Well, the answer should be a quilted one. Mine was given to me by my sister Sandy. She is a super shopper and she found this one many years ago for $10. Made, of course, in China. Over the years I have had so many compliments on it. It is machine pieced and hand appliqued. You might ask how do I keep it dry? Well, just put a shower curtain liner behind it. The best part is --taking a shower is so much more enjoyable. My curtain inspired two of our quilters to make their own.

Sara's bathmat was the inspiration for her shower curtain. She designed the pattern herself. These are her colors!

Esther decided on the Jewel Box pattern for her shower curtain. She loves purple!

Leftover fabric

Do you want to know what to do with those little leftover pieces from you quilt? Well, Sara came up with this lovely idea. She made a mini heart quilt that can go on the wall or give as a gift. Really cute.
Our quilt group was busy today. No time for pictures. I'll try again next week.

Show and Tell #2

Rina finished this very large project. One quilt and two wall hangings for her special daughter. Fantastic job Rina! Sorry about the incorrect color on the first photo. All quilts are the same fabrics.

Shifra came for the first time and brought a stack of handkerchief's that belonged to her Mother. She asked our advice on how to make a quilt out of them. We came up with 2 ideas but if anyone has an idea, please let us know.

The moderator and the group

My name is Caroline Robinson but most of my friends call me Etty. I will be writing on this blog most of the time, but I hope the other members of our quilt group will join me in writing our blog. A special thank you to my hubby for setting up this blog. And a special thank you to Lana Lee Miller and Peggy Graham. These 2 women taught me to quilt at Redstone Arsenal outside of Huntsville Alabama in the early 1980’s. Lana Lee had us meet at her home every week and to my amazement that is what is happening now here in Israel. My friends come to me every Monday morning and I enjoy it so much. I hadn’t quilted in many years but since my retirement 6 years ago, I have started again. I’m a hand quilter and the quilting world has changed a great deal since I learned. I’m now enjoying the old methods along with the new.

I hope you will look in from time to time to see what my friends and I are making.

Show and Tell

This is Esther's first attempt at applique and she is enjoying it. Keep up the good work.

Esther made this quilt in the 1970's and brought it for show and tell. It requires repair. All the quilting experts began brainstorming how to go about it.

At our meeting this week Susan brought this lovely little quilt. She travels from Jerusalem to Betar each week to teach us and inspire us. Thanks Susan.

What do you do when you find fabric that you love and it's loaded with hot chile peppers? Do what Sara did. She made wonderful place mates for family and friends. Now when they eat those tasty Mexican (vegetarian) meals, they will be more exciting. They are soooooo cute! AY CARAMBA!!!!

Welcome

The Zahava quilters wish to welcome you to the Quilting Corner and our new blog. We are group of English speaking quilters living in Betar Illit, Israel. We are so excited. Starting a new blog is like starting a new quilt. You can pick out fabric, a pattern and make all your plans; still, you never know how it will turn out until it's finished. We hope it will always be fun and enjoyable. We want to share ideas, patterns and make quilts that will make everyone happy for years to come.
